Silencing artists as ‘terrorists’ – the impact of counterterror legislation
Artists globally experience, attacks, detention prosecution as a result of them misuse of legislation. Political discourses centered on national security needs and measures have created an environment whereby the oppositional and other minority expression are quickly silenced.
In response to this new reality for artistic freedom, Freemuse will host a conversation on the impact of anti-terror legislation with artists deemed ‘terrorists’ for their artistic expressions.
The session is moderated and introduced by Jasmina Lazović, human rights activist and Freemuse Programme Coordinator – Global Monitoring. She has extensive experience in advocating for the improvement of laws on human and minority rights throughout the Western Balkans region. Prior to joining Freemuse, Jasmina was often involved in organising festivals using arts and culture to raise awareness about human rights violations.
