How does the information war of our time affect democracy? Journalist and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Anne Applebaum has for the past decade been a relentless critic of the authoritarian development in Europe and the United States, and gained international attention for her latest book «Twilight Of Democracy».

Applebaum will give this year’s ICORN lecture, in cooperation with PEN International, Kapittel, Stavanger International Festival of Literature and Freedom of Speech, and the Book Fair in Gothenburg.

The lecture will be live streamed to Bokmässan in Gothenburg and PEN International Centenary Congress, followed by a digital discussion between Applebaum, PEN´s author Sofi Oksanen and of Anders Kompass, Swedish diplomat and former UN official in Gothenburg.

ICORN – The International Cities of Refuge Network is an independent organisation of cities and regions offering shelter to writers and artists at risk, advancing freedom of expression, defending democratic values and promoting international solidarity. ICORN was established in Stavanger in 2006, and every year they invite to a lecture on freedom of expression in literature, art, society and politics.
