When Authors Become Witnesses

When Authors Become Witnesses
Beskrivning

War does not only change people’s lives, it also changes the role of the writer. When people lose their loved ones, their homes, and their everyday lives, their stories are also at risk of being lost. What role can literature play in documenting war? And why are people’s testimonies important, not only for remembrance, but also for future justice?

Taking part in the conversation is the Ukrainian writer and translator Yaryna Grusha. She was a close friend of the Ukrainian writer Viktoria Amelina, who, following Russia’s full-scale invasion, began documenting Russian war crimes by collecting testimonies from people who had lost their homes and loved ones. Viktoria Amelina was killed in July 2023 in a Russian missile attack on Kramatorsk.

Moderator: Frank Schipper, UNHCR.

Biljett: Ingår i entrébiljetten.
