Patrícia Portela

Patrícia Portela (b. 1974) is a Portuguese writer and performance maker. She studied set and costume design and cinema in Utrecht, Helsinki, and Ebeltoft, and holds a master’s in Philosophy from the International Institute of Leuven. Since 2003, she has created performances and installations with international artists, earning wide recognition and awards including the Gulbenkian Foundation Prize. Author of acclaimed novels including Banquet, Dias Úteis, and Hyphen, she wrote for Jornal de Letras (2017–2025), and has been artistic director for Teatro Viriato and the artspace Rua das Gaivotas.
