Doron Rabinovici

Doron Rabinovici, born in Tel Aviv in 1961 and raised in Vienna, is a writer and historian. His work includes short stories, novels and academic articles. In Austria, he has repeatedly taken a prominent stand against racism and anti-Semitism. For his work he was most recently awarded the Anton Wildgans Prize and the Honorary Prize of the Austrian Book Trade for Tolerance in Thought and Action.
His latest work, “The Position”, is a highly topical novel on the debate about fake news and alternative truths. A star press photographer is commissioned by a liberal weekly magazine to photographically expose the leading candidate of a populist party in order to stop the seemingly unstoppable triumph of the right-wing populist party. With wit, irony and fabulosity, Doron Rabinovici tells of an increasingly polarized and increasingly divided society. He describes the relativization of facts, the power of attraction of authoritarian ideas, and the seductive power of images. The book is a very realistic portrait of the struggle of a populist politician against a photographer who knows very well that every shot is testimony to an attitude.
