Mats Söderlund

Mats Söderlund made his debut as a poet in 1992 and was awarded The Swedish Writers’ Union’s prestigious Catapult Award for best literary debut. Since then he has won numerous literary awards and scholarships as a poet and is regarded as one of the most headstrong nature poets. Söderlund often describes himself as “a forester from the north” with roots deeply entrenched in the Nordic folklore and the Northern narrative tradition where not everything can be explained. He has published more than 20 books of fiction and non-fiction. Most recently he finished the climate-fantasy trilogy named “Ättlingarna”, the Descendants, which was well acclaimed in the Swedish press:

“Something as unlikely as a really heart-pounding reading party about climate policy, without moralizing.”/ Göteborgs-Posten

”A masterful new environmental dystopia”/Borås tidning

If one were to be moved by one single novel, let it be this. […] It’s a beautifully narrated, deep, highly ambitious, dedicated and disturbing dystopia he has succeeded to portray. Or what is a dystopia that became reality really called? Prophecy? / Dagens Nyheter

Söderlund was Chairman of the Swedish Writers’ Union 2005 – 2012, The Swedish Joint Committee for Artistic and Literary Professionals 20013 – 2015 and a representative of the Swedish National Commission for Unesco 2011 – 2015.
